Our Curriculum

At kinderzimmer, we aim to give every child a wide range of experiences that offer independence, exploration and wonder.

We want them to feel secure and inspired, excited by our amazing and beautiful planet, and happily anticipating what tomorrow may bring them.

Our 3-strand approach.

We’ve developed a unique curriculum drawing from three of the leading educators in early years’ education. Theories from Steiner, Froebel and Montessori have allowed us to develop a curriculum of three underlying principles: Independence, Exploration and Wonder.

Our pedagogical approach covers…

Practical Skills

Equipping children with independence and self esteem through tasks, such as: Baking, Gardening, Woodwork, Sewing, Painting, Self Care, and Clay Work.

Process Not Product

Exploring each child's desire or fascination is the focus. We make and do and build to acquire skills and explore possibilities.

Fantasy and Fable

We encourage children to imagine, pretend, imitate and reenact. We retell traditional and contemporary tales to help them explore concepts such as right and wrong, kindness and truth.

What will our Building Blocks be Today?

Our playrooms include versatile resources rather than an abundance of single-purpose toys. Today wooden blocks may be a rocket ship, tomorrow a toaster!

An Ear for Music

We encourage children to join in with lullabies, finger games, action songs, traditional and contemporary nursery rhymes.

Getting Out

Our commitment to valuing play outside and developing an appreciation of Nature, as well as regular excursions to parks and local area.

Our Playrooms

Our environments, both inside and outdoors, are designed to encourage imaginative play, resilience and spontaneous learning.

We have designed our rooms to make the most of our kinderzimmer approach; we have spaces for collaboration, shelves for self-selecting tasks; and a workbench for free exploration. Elsewhere in the room, there is an array of educational-led resources for children to use in play however they choose.

We prioritise Getting Outside as part of our pedagogical approach. Each kinderzimmer play garden is designed in zonal areas to make the most of every space, and includes: a sand pit, water play area, an allotment, free play track and a dedicated shaded babies area.

Creating Healthy Habits

Our multifunctional kinderzimmer kitchens offer a unique opportunity for children to get comfortable in the kitchen. Not only to eat together as they would at home, and learn the daily life skills of serving, sharing and clearing away, but also learning farm-to-table practices with produce grown in the garden; how to prepare food safely; baking nutritious snacks for their classmates; and even getting creative with clay or messy with science experiments.
